Losing both my legs above the knee in 2005 felt like losing my life
After being hit by a car and losing both my legs upon impact, my life was indeed almost lost. Doctors and surgeons worked hard to restore the blood loss and repair the extensive damage caused by this accident. After months of healing, I was fitted with my first prosthesis. The socket fit was terrible and the legs looked just awful, but my prosthetist at the time told me that I would "just have to live with it."
Since I was already having to live with a terrible, life-changing situation, I was devastated. I refused to settle for this. Since walking on these legs was almost non-existent, I visited another prosthetist. It was during this visit that I learned of the C-Leg. Captivated by this type of leg, I was soon fitted with them. The legs were great and my socket fit was much better than the first. I was up and taking steps within a few weeks. Soon after this, my family relocated to Texas, and I was in need of a new prosthetist. Upon visiting MK Prosthetic & Orthotic Services, I knew immediately this was the place for me!
Mark Kirchner, CPO/LPO and his team of prosthetists told me about their elevated double wall vacuum socket system, and I was ready to be fitted. Within no time my prostheses were delivered. Words cannot express what these new legs are like! Never before have I had a fit like this. It is as close to natural as I have ever felt and I am now excited to really begin walking.
Although taking steps and walking using a prosthesis is never easy, MK certainly has made it easier for me. I don't have to "just live with" anything less than great prosthetic legs, and MK has proven this to me.
I am now determined to work hard and have made walking my priority. Thanks to Mark and his caring, compassionate team, I know walking will be a success!
